Stephen Vitiello
Posted in Uncategorized on June 15th, 2010Vitiello is an American installation and sound artist. He records sounds and puts them together to create a track. His tracks are just like a painter’s painting. Each sound creates a relationship with the others and really brings together an emotional feeling or literal imitation. According to his bio on his website (http://www.stephenvitiello.com) he was granted a studio for six months on the on the 91st floor of the World Trade Center Tower 1 to record the building’s creeks of movement from the wind. My two favorites from his website are “Snails” and “Lula.” http://www.stephenvitiello.com/index.php?id=C0_4_2 Click there to listen for yourself.
Vitiello often pairs up with fellow artists to collaborate or combine their installation works into one showing. Vitiello’s intution to add natural sound with other sounds that seem to be set to some sort of tempo, he’s really fulfilling the purpose and act of an instrument.
